In the last Ice Age which ended 10,000 years ago, rhinoceroses and mammoths adapted to the freezing conditions by growing long, warm coats. Cave paintings show the woolly rhinoceros with a thick black and reddish coat. Whole mammoths have been found deep-frozen in the ground in Siberia with some of their coats still intact.
