Your pituitary gland is about the size of a pea. It hangs down from the base of your brain by a short stalk. It is the most important endocrine gland in your body. Five of the 11 hormones it produces are used to control the actions of the other glands. In turn, however, the pituitary gland is controlled by the hypothalamus at the base of your brain.
