The male testicles make testosterone. This hormone gives men their male characteristics, such as hair on their faces and bodies. It also controls the production of sperm cells, needed to make babies. The female ovaries make oestrogen and progesterone. These prepare women's bodies for having babies. They also give women their female characteristics, such as breasts.
