Prairie dogs, or ground squirrels, live in vast systems of burrows called 'towns'. Each town is divided into smaller family units called 'coteries'. A prairie dog town found in Texas, USA in the 19th century contained an incredible 400 million animals. It covered an area about twice the size of Belgium.
