A 13-year old gorilla, called Koko, was taught from an early age to use sign language. She now knows about 1,000 words. Koko is very fond of her cat and describes him as 'Soft good cat cat' and herself as 'Fine animal gorilla'. In an intelligence test taken at the age of seven, Koko proved to be just as clever as a human seven-year old.
