Some mammals have very sensitive whiskers which help them to find their way around in the dark or underwater. A walrus's moustache contains about 700 hairs. It uses these to feel its way around in murky water. The hairs may also be used as forks to hold shellfish in place while the walrus sucks out the soft insides.
