What is a silkworm?
The silkworm is the caterpillar of the mulberry silk moth Bombyx mori. Like many other moth larvae, it can make silk threads, but its cocoon is made of incredibly long threads up to 4 mile (1.2 km) long, ideal for spinning into cloth. Silkworms have been bred in captivity for at least 2,000 years in China.
