Why are termites heavier than elephants?
Millions of termites live in the tropics. There may be as many as 3,300 per square yard (4,000 per square metre), sometimes even twice this. The weight of termites in 0.4 square miles (I square kilometre) under the ground, is more than the weight of all the elephants or zebras feeding on the vegetation above the ground.
