There are two main ways of "singing" if you are a grasshopper or cricket. Short-horned. grasshoppers scratch a row of projections (something that sticks up) from the inside of the hind leg against the veins of the front wing. In other grasshoppers and crickets, the bases of the front wings are scratched together to make the sound.
