X-rays are used to look inside your body and take photographs of it. X-rays are invisible rays of energy. They can pass through soft flesh but not through hard bones. The flesh shows up black and the bones white. X-rays were first discovered by a German scientist, Wilhelm Röntgen, in 1895. He named them "X-rays" because of their mysterious nature.
