The cerebral cortex is the biggest part of the brain. If it were laid out flat, it would cover an area 12 times the size of this page. This is the brain's control area. The cortex is split into two halves, called hemispheres. Each of these is divided into different areas. Some areas deal with messages coming in from the senses. Others deal with outgoing messages.
