Lizards that live on the edge of deserts, where there is rainfall and food for part of the year only, eat as much as they can in times of plenty. They store food as fat in their bodies, usually round the tail, which grows very big and fat. When there is no food, the tail slims down again as the fat is used up, to give the lizard energy.
