If a horned lizard is attacked, it can increase the blood pressure in veins, in its eye sockets until they burst. Blood squirts out in a thin stream, traveling up to 48 in (122 cm) and splattering the attacker. Predators, that get the lizard's blood in their eyes, or mouth think it is poisonous and leave the lizard alone.
