Do crocodiles use birds as toothbrushes?
In a way, yes! The Nile crocodile often rests with its mouth open. Birds venture into its open jaws, to pick at bits of meat stuck between the teeth, and perhaps feed on parasites lurking there as well. The birds have to leap out of the way if the crocodile suddenly snaps shut its jaws. By taking flight, they can also warn the crocodile of approaching danger.
