Sea cow is the name for both manatees and dugongs, the two remaining members of the order Sirenia. They were nicknamed sea cows because they graze plants that grow on the sea-bed, just as cows graze in fields. Both of these animals are so badly endangered that they are expected to be extinct by around 2020.
