The biggest whale is the blue whale which is now officially protected to prevent its extinction. It is the largest-known mammal ever to have lived. The average length of a female is 87 feet (26.2 m); males are shorter at about 80 feet (24.1 m). The biggest recorded blue whale measured 110 feet (33 m) and weighed 160 tons.
