How do harvester ants work together?
Harvester ants nest in a large colony with a single queen. Most of the group are workers, with different jobs to do. Scout ants search out new sources of seeds, the colony's food. Other workers carry the seeds back to the nest, where soldier ants, with huge jaws, crack them open. The juicy nut kernels are carried inside the nest, and stored in special chambers, leaving a huge pile of husks outside.
