What wears snow-shoes with hairy soles?
Desert animals, such as camels and addax antelopes, have very broad feet. Their feet act like snow-shoes, spreading the animal's weight over a wide area, to stop it sinking into soft sand. Hot sand can scorch tender animal feet, so the camel's feet have tough soles to protect them. Some other desert beasts, such as sand cats and gerbils, have feet with hairy soles for the same reason.
