The shell of the giant African snail Achatina can be up to 13 in (35 cm) long. That is as long as a rabbit. The extended snail is longer. A captive specimen was once measured at 15 in (39 cm) from head to tail, with a shell 10 in long (27 cm), and a weight of 32 oz (900 g).
