Which moth encourages its food to grow?
Many moths and butterflies may help their food grow, because they help to pollinate flowers. The yucca moths of Mexico and North America lay their eggs in the ovaries of the yucca flower, then put pollen on the stigma so the flower is fertilized. By doing this it is helping the plant to produce seeds. Of the seeds it produces, some may grow into new plants, but many will be eaten by the moth larvae that are developing within the ovary. Both the moth and the plant benefit.
