How many beetle species are there?
About 370,000 different species of beetles have been found so far; that's one third of all the known animals in the world. Beetle specialists can only guess how many more await discovery, particularly in the tropics. Estimates suggest that at least as many again will be found, and there could be up to 5,000,000 species. Beetles are easily the biggest group of animals in the world.
