The human head louse lives in human hair and can be an irritating nuisance. But it is not dangerous and doesn't spread disease. It will live on clean hair as happily as dirty. Lice cannot fly, so they like to live in crowded conditions where they can easily step from one human head to another, to get a new feeding ground.
