Locust swarms can be sprayed from the air with poisons. But by the time millions of them are flying together, they are difficult to stop. Nowadays, scientists keep an eye on locust numbers, to make sure they aren't building up too much. If they see a dramatic increase in locust numbers, they can often be destroyed before they get out of control.
