Why do dragonflies fly in pairs?
Dragonflies seen flying together are usually a mating pair. A male defends a certain territory, and courts females that come into it. Before mating takes place, the male puts sperm from the tip of his abdomen into a special pouch under the front of his abdomen. He then uses claspers, on the end of the abdomen, to grasp the female, and they fly together. The final mating position allows the female to take sperm from the male.
