Some species of termite, including Macrotermes, farm, or grow, a fungus. They make special "fungus combs" out of their own faeces, as a base on which to grow the fungus. These are called "gardens." The fungus breaks down the faeces, and the termites feed on the fungus, and its products. The fungus is a special one, only found growing in termite nests.
